These are a pair of paintings I did last year. It was when I first started experimenting with encaustic painting. I love this medium! Now that summer's here I have cleared that part of my art room and am eager to start in again. You must have adequate ventilation (open windows and exhaust fan) for the fumes but it's worth it. I've been stockpiling all kinds of new colors of encaustic paint every time I visit Blick Art Supply so we shall see what develops in the coming weeks. I'm still new at it but I'm ready to bring out the torch and see what I can come up with. Don't tell hubby but I've got a new torch, too! I'll be careful not to burn the house down... ;) The first painting is called Shattered Hearts.
For this week's Paint Party Friday I wanted to contribute something so I thought I would show you a different medium. Be sure to check out all the other entries. There is always a great deal of eye candy there! ;)

Wow..both are beautiful! The first feels like a fragmented symbolic language telling a deep story...and then as it unfolds..youunderstand it instantly..wow..I love this..

I can't figure encaustics out. I tried. Got mad. Threw it all in the trash and cussed a lot.
You however, are amazing.
But you knew that.
Love these. I really dig the violence of the second piece. Reminds me of that old Bush song and the line "There no sex in your violence." Great piece.
learn something new every day. First I'm hearing of this encaustic painting. But your work is lovely...if sombre topic.

I'm just starting to get comfortable with liquid acrylics, and here you are using a blow torch! Holy cow! Both are very cool. I love the glass pieces. The second one looks like a bloody mess. That's what it's suppose to, right? :O)
Wow, these are really great. I am not brave enough to try an art form that requires an open flame.
oh wow, love the bleeding hearts piece....so effective. Encaustic painting sounds like fun..its something I've yet to try, so its great to see being used!...fancy doing a little video tutorial ?! :)x

Most of what I've learned so far has come from the book "Encaustic Art: The Complete Guide to Creating Fine Art With Wax" by Lissa Rankin. Tons of info there!

wonderful idea to paint over and old painting that you do not care for. There are so many of those in the world. Yea for recycling.
