Sudden Flight

This is my painting for Paint Party Friday. It's 12" x 12" mixed media on panel. I'm getting it posted early! It's a tribute to my mother. Her birthday is April 2 and she would have turned 71. She died suddenly seven years ago April 4. I am now able to view it like a sudden flight. One day she was with us and the next, she was gone. I wish I could have said goodbye but at least we had talked on her birthday a couple of days before.

I try to do some kind of art piece each year in honor of her birthday. Even though Spring is here, the colors seem a little muted right now. I usually cheer up and get in the flow of things after the first weeks of April have passed. So for right now, the girl in the painting is dressed for Spring but not quite feeling it...

Be sure to check out all of the participants for Paint Party Friday tomorrow. Last week there was a big response! It's fun to check out the blogs and see what everyone painted.  :)

It's a great painting Pam. She does seem in a fog but all around her the flowers are in bloom. Very nice work and with so much feeling for your Mom. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

Puck,

what an amazing tribute to your wonderful mother. She was amazing I'm sure because she raised an extraordinary daughter.

Your mother must have been a very special woman - and she too was very lucky and blessed to have you as a daughter. Your love for her is so apparent and so strong. Even though she is not with you on the physical plan it is very clear she is with you in spirit.

Your tribute painting is stunning - full of many emotions but truly reflecting the deep and profound love you have for your mother.

Hugs,
Jenny

Pam, your painting is beautiful. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I know these are a rough few weeks for you, but time eventually heals. Allowing your grief through art is a wonderful process. Hugs~ Rhonda

I love the brush strokes in this. Such freedom and energy. And the colours work really well too. The girl is moving to an unseen rhythm. All in all, a great piece of work.

This is a lovely tribute to your mum. I love the colours you've used and how she stands out from the darker background. This makes me think of Alice in Wonderland - the darker Tim Burton version. I love the thought and meaning behind your paintings.

Such a beautiful tribute to your Mom- I love that you do this every year. What a cathartic way to commemorate her. I like how she is among the flowers but separate as well- her muted colors really work to convey that sense of loss and sadness.
Happy PPF!

What is done with deep feeling is always great, your work is fresh, lively and with a tinge of regret at a time. A kiss

This is a beautiful painting. I'm sure your mother would have loved it.

My mother passed away 7 months ago, and her birthday was a couple weeks ago. Very difficult day to get through. It was a very quiet day.

A gorgeous tribute to your Mom, Pam. Mine died April 8 years ago - 2 days before her birthday. (Why do people die near their birthdays?)

I love the colours, the almost ballet-like outfit and her expression. Wonderful and touching!

Hugs to you, Pam... This is such a wonderful tribute post to your mom. I love your textures and the way there are little bursts of color peeking through the muted ones.

I lost my mother suddenly a few years ago.I understand your thoughts at this time. Also think making art as a tribute to her is a wonderful idea.

A wonderful tribute to your mom! You are right she looks like she's all dressed up but not quite ready to party. I also really love the bird picture further down, really like the effect; is it watercolor>? Thanks for stopping by on my first PPF!

Your art work is beautiful, those colors work so well together.
I'm sorry that you weren't able to say good-bye to your mom. When my mom died four years ago I fortunately was able to fly over to Germany and say good-bye. I am so grateful for that.
I like that you do something in her honor every year on her birthday.

How beautiful the feathery leaves of the flowers and the way the pink (love) and blue (sadness at the loss) flower garden surrounds the girl...I truly wish you peace in your heart and joy in your soul :) Happy weekend!

What a great tribute to your mother. It never even crossed my mind to do a painting every year, although I journal every year on the anniversary of my father's passing. Which happens to be in a couple days so I may have to incorporate your idea :)

Your style is very unique and engaging to look at!

This is exquisitely beautiful. I love the feeling, the colors, her clothing. I clicked to make it large to enjoy it. And to think you were inspired by or for you mother with this piece, well that touches my heart, very much.
