And Life Goes On...

"Les morts vont vite, the dead go fast, the next day absent!
Et les vivants sont dingues, the living are haywire.
Except for a few who grieve, life rapidly readjusts itself...
The dead go quickly
Not knowing why they go or where they go. To die is human,
To come back divine.
Les morts vont vite. We living stand at the gate
And life goes on."
-- from Proverb
by Kenneth Koch

I took this photo yesterday at sunrise. I couldn't believe the color! It was like a beautiful painting! It reminded me of fire. The poem was one I came across in The New Yorker today.

This time of year is hard for me. It was Mom's favorite. She used to love getting ready for the holidays. She loved cooking for Thanksgiving and anticipating everyone coming home for dinner. And Christmas was her absolute favorite. She had recently started decorating two trees and hosting an open house. Her face would light up at the thought of preparing for the festivities! :-)

But she's been gone for eight years now and that just seems impossible to me. So we continue with some traditions and not others. Dad has remarried and has a new family to celebrate with. So, yeah, I guess it's true. Life goes on...

I hope you all have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it where you are. HUGS to every one of YOU!

We wear the dead like those trees wear the shining clouds.

Btw I had to smile at "haywire". It has been unknown to me until now : )
A happy celebration to you : )

This post is quite moving, Pam. I am sending you a cyber hug too.

I am still blessed to have my mother around and as of late, since her health is noticeably failing, I embrace each moment and breathe in the essence of her presence...soon she will be gone, and I will be part of the sisterhood of women morning the loss a mother.

Even now, I feel some things have already changed; it is the inevitability of our human existence that change occur.

The hard part is it in not part of our human nature to accept that change easily, hence the person left behind (after a death) has the harder time accepting said change.

If only change were an easier pill to swallow.

I hope you can see the beauty of this coming season as your mother did and embrace it, enjoy it, and relish it as she might have...and as she would want you to.

Tight hugs and warm wishes for peace and joy at this time of year.

Jenny

Hi Pam, I'm adding an extra comment to say I'm hoping your Thanksgiving was all you wanted it to be, and a wee bit more.

Up here in Canada, it came and went back in October...and literally overnight Christmas was everywhere. I put my blinders on and go about my business ignoring all sites and sounds of Christmas until December arrives...then I flick my internal switch and get in the mood.

Christmas has become one big shopathon and returnathon - so sad. Oh well, I love the trees, the songs, the food and most of all the company...so I will focus on those.

I hope you can also see the wonders and beauty of the coming holiday...after today. I think in the US you at least wait until after your Thanksgiving before you haul out all the tree trimmings and break in to FaLaLaLaLa.

It's always a delight to chat with you and catch up. I hope your art is keeping you busy. Are you working on anything special?

With hugs and smiles, Jenny

Hello Jenny! I'm so glad to hear from you again. :) Thanksgiving was fine. I'm still here with hubby's family. We are definitely missing the presence of my brother-in-law this year. We are together and making the most of it.

Christmas is looming here in the U.S. as well. The stores started decorating after Halloween! I'm with you on tuning it out until December. I, too, enjoy the sights and sounds of the seasons though. :)

Yes it's always a delight to chat with you! And I am working on some new art projects which I hope to bring to the blog soon. Also, a new website! So stay tuned!

Hugs and smiles right back ay ya! :)

Hi Pam!
I understand what you are saying. I spend all of my childhood and some of my adulthood hating the holiday season. Even though I do enjoy it now, it's always a somewhat bittersweet time of year for me.
Oh yeah, I love that photo! The trees in silhouette are amazing. I was just about to say that I'll be back later to catch up here (because I've been very absent from blogland) and then I saw that you have also. Take care my friend...
