Circus Girl
I'm back from vacation and slowly getting settled into my routine. I had a fantastic time visiting with my friends and just soaking up all the fun in my hometown. Of course the time went too fast and I was sad to leave (as always). I'm planning another trip in November so that will keep my spirits up.
Katie Kendrick's class has ended and I really enjoyed it! She's a wonderful teacher and I'm eagerly awaiting her book that is coming out in January (I think). This is a mixed media piece I just finished using a background I did from Katie's class.
I'm also taking a class from Jane Davenport called Supplies Me. It's an awesome class. I confess to buying many art supplies and then once I get them home, I'm not quite sure what to do with them... Jane is an admitted art supply hound and she shows you exactly what to do with all of those supplies!
This week we are experimenting with pastels. I've never used them before so I thought I would try Jane's technique and see if I could do a figure in pastels. This girl just popped up. I've had a poem in my head called The Circus Watcher, by Mary Jo Bang and I was thinking about that as I was sketching, so I guess this is my Circus Girl. ;)
Thank you all for your kind thoughts on my Aunt's passing and on my last painting. They meant very much to me. Big HUG to all of you! I plan on catching up with all of your blogs this week.

She's stunning. I love the grungy texture in the background, too. It looks like I'm going to have to look up that poem. :^)
This pasel figure of circus girl is very thought provacing. and I love the background and her placement, her face is serious yet dreamy. I call her hair cotten candy hair ...I love cotten candy . great art work my friend

Great piece, love the techniques you have used. Nice to see you back again! Valerie
The background is wonderful - I love the dark black and grey, not often used in backgrounds, but you have made it work. The shock of pink contrasts with the background and gives the piece drama. I must confess to being a art supply addict myself. It's really the only thing I spoil myself with - so its justified (I think!) Pastels are fun to use - I often use them once I have finished a painting, to add colour.
Your layers of color are so beautiful!
This is a lovely piece :-)
Lovely Circus Girl, I quite like her slightly cynical mouth expression, too!

Blessings

Oh, pastels, my favorite... X3
Beautiful work here, the texture of the background and the soft coloring of the girl is an awesome mix... Love it!

Another good one Pam! Although I don't know a lot about art, I do know that I love the look of pastels. Your choice of colors and textures is what always amazes me though....very nice!
I've been visiting your blog for the 1st time this morning and I really like your work. This one, though, is a standout. The grungy ochre background with that pink is just amazing. Have you ever painted an abstract? I think that this technique and palette would also be stunning in a non-representational style.
Looking forward to seeing more of your paintings!
Kathy
Hi Kathy. Thank you for your kind comments and welcome to my blog! Yes I've painted a few abstracts along the way. They are included here and there in the blog. Every once in a while the Muse calls for one. ;-) it was so nice to meet you. Thank you again for stopping by!
