Blackbird

For Micael -- Love You.
This is my painting for Paint Party Friday. I'm early two weeks in a row! :) This is for a very special friend who has inspired me in more ways than I can ever begin to name. Here are the song and lyrics by Alter Bridge that also helped inspire the painting:

Blackbird
The willow it weeps today
A breeze from the distance is calling your name
Unfurl your black wings and wait
Across the horizon it's coming to sweep you away
It's coming to sweep you away
Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again
The fragile cannot endure
The wrecked and the jaded a place so impure
The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day
Long before they've seen their day
Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again
Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
Ascend, may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
All you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again
Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again
Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
May you never be broken again

Excellent work. I'd give anything to be able to draw or paint. I can't do it. So I write instead. And Micael is the best isn't he?

Pam, this is just gorgeous!! I love the trails from the wings, showing movement and flight...the little patches of blues and other colors peeking through the cloudy white, and the way the bird's image just pulls the eye right too it. Happy weekend :)

your texture is so soft, reminds me of a linen material. The bird seems woven into the background and then appears to come out. A dreamy painting! Is that pastel?

Pam Tucker said...

Hi Peggy. Thank you!

The base was a coat of gesso and some random scraps of old book pages glued here and there. The rest is just layers of acrylic paint, scraped and re-applied. That's it! :)

Wonderful work. I would like to dedicate this poem to those who got hit so many times in the same place...until one day, they broke.
